The COPAC Executive Committee approved this week that Sergio Navarro would take on the position of Provisional Chairman of Ocean Racing in Americas.
The initiative came with the intention of separating Canoe Ocean Racing from the Canoe Marathon Committees in the next Congress, which will take place during the 2019 Lima Games.
In this sense and with the need to begin the development of the modality in America, the 2nd vice president of COPAC will be the Provisional Chairman until the process of formation and approval of the mentioned Committee is carried out.
He started in sport in 1984 as a canoeing athlete from the Central University of Venezuela. From 1986 to 1990 he assumed the presidency of the Canomir Club. In 1987 he founded the Venezuelan Federation of Canoeing, also acting as its president from 2002 to 2009 and from 2015 to 2017. He was COPAC’s treasurer from 2005 to 2007 and Secretary General of COSURCA and Central American and Caribbean Confederation from 2005 to 2009. He was assistant to the President of the Olympic Committee of Venezuela in the canoe from 2009 to 2017.
He also participated in numerous international congresses, championships and assemblies of the sport.
Navarro currently serves as the 2nd Vice President of COPAC and now also serves as the Provisional Chairman of Ocean Racing in Americas.
