The 2018 Pan American Championships, held in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada, was host to
Para Canoe athletes from six federations, including, Brazil, Canada, Chile (with one athlete from
Easter Island), Colombia, United States of America, and Venezuela. There was representation in
most classes and there was high participation by both women and men. We also had athletes
from many of these federations participate in a Para Canoe Development Camp conducted by
Thiago Pupo of Brazil prior to the competition.
The Para Canoe Camp proved to be very successful and all agreed they learned a great deal from this accomplished coach. Increasing participation at the Pan Am Championships is an important focus as our goal is to be
considered for inclusion in the Para Pan American Games in 2023.
Everyone is amazed at the growth in Para Canoe as can be seen in this photo taken at the 2018 Sprint Canoe Championships!
