All about the Dartmouth 2018 Pan Am and Para Pan Am Canoe Sprint Championships

Lake Banook in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia is the host of the 2018 PanAm Canoe Championships. The regatta will be hosted from September 13 to 16, and will feature up to 20 different nations from the COPAC countries (North and South America).

Location

Lake Banook is only 30 minutes away from the Halifax Robert L. Stanfield International Airport (HSIA). The venue is in the heart of Dartmouth and is easily accessible via major roads and is in walking distance to downtown Dartmouth. Halifax/Dartmouth is in Eastern Canada. The recently modernized Halifax Robert L. Stanfield International Airport (HSIA) is a major Canadian airport and is 30 minutes from the venue and accommodations.

Venue

Lake Banook in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia (City of Lakes) is home to a Grade A International Canoe Federation (ICF) recognized natural race course. Our nine-lane, 1,000m course is fully operated and maintained by the Atlantic Division of Canoe Kayak Canada, providing us the unique and desirable ability to control its full use and to ensure the course is meticulously maintained to our world-class standards. We are able to offer these high standards because of our dedicated, technically superior volunteer network, Facilities Manager and additional staff. Our newly installed, highly innovative and effective return lane is also a major addition to our offerings, elevating the course to its’ Grade A status. Lake Banook has excellent water conditions and all athletes experience fair and equitable conditions across all nine lanes. Water Quality Lake Banook is a natural, clean, deep, spring-fed lake.

Special Events and Ceremonies

Opening Ceremonies 

When: September 12, 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.
Where: Dartmouth HIgh School 

Opening ceremonies will include a Parade of Nations and performances by Beverley Jeddore and Geordy Marshall. Government officials and sport partners will welcome athletes, coaches and friends to kick-off the regatta.

We ask each participating nation to attend dress in their team uniforms with a flag bearer to represent the country during the parade of nations. Transport will be organized for each nation at designated hotels to attend.

Medal Presentations

When: Throughout event.
Where: Podium beside MicMac AAC 

See athletes be presented with their medals at medal presentations throughout the day. Grandstand seating available.

CKC Alumni Reception

When: September 16 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Where: Mic Mac AAC 

Calling all Pan American Games Alumni Medalists in Sprint Canoe Kayak! You’re invited to an alumni reunion of all past medalists from Pan American Games in Sprint Canoe Kayak. If you have ever made Canada proud by winning a medal at the Pan American Games, we want to see you at Mic Mac AAC on September 16 to cheer on Team Canada in the some of the most exciting races of the 2018 Pan Am and Para Pan Am Canoe Sprint Championships.

Closing Ceremonies

When: September 16 4:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.
Where: Podium beside Mic Mac AAC 

Join us for the 2018 Pan Am and Para Pan Am Canoe Sprint Championships closing ceremonies. Where countries will experience a Canadian tradition, winning burgees to bring home with them!

Accommodations

The Host Organizing Committee has pre-arranged preferred rates at the following Dartmouth hotels to ensure all teams needs are met. Special rates begin Tuesday, September 11 and end Sunday, September 16, 2018.

Transportation

Bussing

Daily Transport From Designated Hotels is arranges from 6:45 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. each morning each day, and in the afternoon from 1:45 to 4:45 in the afternoon. *Exact schedules of pick-up and drop-off will be posted in each hotel lobby.

Para Transport

There will be Para transport each morning from 7:00 to 10:00 a.m., and in the afternoon from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. *Exact schedules of pick-up and drop-off will be posted in each hotel lobby.

Opening Ceremonies Transport

Wednesday September 12th 
There will be opening ceremonies transport from each of the hotels starting at 5:00 p.m.for pick-ups and drop-offs, and once again return travel after the ceremonies.
