2018 Pan Am & Para Pan Am Sprint Canoe Championships Report

The 2018 Pan Am and Para Pan Am Championships were held in Dartmouth, NS; Canada from September 13 to 16. COPAC is happy to report that we had four terrific days of excellent competition and great weather.

In total there were 16 countries represented in Senior; Junior and Para Canoe Events with 12 different countries winning medals over the 4 day competition. This was the most countries that COPAC [Pan Am Canoe Federation] has had for any previous Qualifying competition.

As the top finishers in the Senior Olympic Events also qualified to attend the 2019 Pan Am Games in Lima, Peru. This will provide excellent competition for the 2019 Pan Am Games.

Canada dominated the overall competition winning the most medals: 53 total followed by Mexico with 40 total medals and Chile with 29 total medals.

In the Para Canoe division there was participation from 6 different countries; an increase in total participants from the 2017 Championships.  Congratulations to our Para athletes .

Brazil finished in the lead for Para Canoe Medals with a total of 7 medals; followed by the USA  with 6 medals; Canada, 4 medals; Chile with 3 medals and Venezuela and Colombia with 1 medal each.
